Buy your tickets to live a great show: the Opening Ceremony of the EuroGames, that will be celebrated on Thursday July 24th at 21:00 in the Palau Sant Jordi, the Oplympic Pavilion. It will be a ceremony of light, music and emotions to say a big welcome to the 5000 athletes who will be part of the 12th. edition of the EuroGames.

With the TV presenter Àngel Llàcer, the Gospel Choir of Barcelona with more than 150 singers, the big sing show of Gema Castaño, and the finalists of the 2008 edition of the famous TV program Operación Triunfo (Spanish version of the Star Academy) and much more. In addition, like in many other sport ceremonies, we will applase all the participants while they parade around the stadium. Be part of the Ceremony! Be part of the EuroGames! Come to the GAY PRIDE at Madrid, Saturday 5th of July at 18h! Participate shining with your EuroGames 08 T-Shirt and having fun. As many we are more visible we will be!

The GAY PRIDE parade starts at Independencia square (known as Puerta de Alcala) and ends at España square. The volunteers will meet at 18h at the independencia square, in front of the gate of the Parque del Retiro. Do not get lost; there will be a lot of people!

Bring your friends, family, pets… everybody! Bring your rainbow flag, those sensual shorts and… come to have fun with us!

Number one worry: security checks

Badge, name, photo, introductions, orange juice and the rain got us started on the third training day for volunteers.

The newbies had a hard time….you probably know what we mean, yeah, you’ve been there too! Racking your brain to create an ad, a carafe-filling race, skiing on pebbles… Pep Escartin, member of the Honour Committee, conducted the session in the afternoon.

With his usual original and humourous touch, he introduced the different coordinators of volunteers, who told about what it meant for them to be part of this project.

The session came to an end with Joan Miró, the EuroGames president, who welcomed the 40 new just-trained volunteers.

Hi dear volunteers!

As many of you already know, the Names Project organised the HIVvictims’ memorial at the Cathedral on Saturday 17th May. This event started the AIDS International Week of action. No doubt it was a day for reflection for the LGTB group in the fight against HIV.

Many associations from all over Spain got together in the event in order to advertise themselves and support the cause and we also just had to be there: EuroGames Barcelona 08 does have a stand in the venue.

Despite the threat of a dull rainy day, nobody wanted to miss the event, including the passers-by who were taking a Saturday morning stroll. Voices from Andalusia, Galicia, Madrid could be heard in the various stands run by the different associations in the venue.

A huge tapestry was made out of patches that read the names of some of the victims of this pandemic and a symbolic act was set up, with the readings of some of the victims’ names by some famous personalities (politicians, health officials from both state and local governement institutions) and by LGTB representatives. A EuroGames Barcelona 08 volunteer also took part in the event.

The morning event came to an end with the presentation of the slogan for the “Shout it out loud: stop AIDS” campaign and with a deafening whistling. What began as seeming chaos turned into a joyful samba, which was proof of the hope fostered by all those who fight against this evil every single day-

Without a doubt, this was a chance to make ourselves known to citizens, rather than to gain new volunteers. Still we managed to attract a few people from the various associations present who are interested in volunteering and do not want to miss this summer’s great event in Barcelona.

The Volunteers EuroGames 2008 Barcelona were in Operation Triumph 2008

Hi volunteers:

On May 13, a large group of volunteers, perhaps the most ever together,
attended the live presentation of OperaciÃ³n Triunfo 2008 and to see the
all the contestants of the academy, the hot JesÃºs VÃ¡zquez, the
not-so-mean Risto, the attractive Alejandro FernÃ¡ndez and of course the
always fabulous MÃ³nica Naranjo.

After waiting in a long line, we were able to leave some gifts for the
contestants so they would always remember us, although weâ€™ll never know
if they really received them, and then we entered the Gestmusic complex.
The gave us all instructions that photos are prohibited, cell phones are
prohibited, explaining the image rights of the contestants...if you take
photos you are stealing their image and they will discretely throw you
out of the event, etc etc...

Then a sandwich, french fries and a small bottle of water as a snack
taken on the grass. It was like a picnic but with 1000 other people and
a line to get the bathrooms that makes you laugh and think of the days of
food rationing.

Too excited to complain, finally we entered the studio and the magic
began. It was unreal. Despite the number of times you see it on
television, when you are there you still canâ€™t believe it. Everyone
enjoyed it a great deal, booing, applauding, listening to the contestants
sing, who by the way, donâ€™t sing out of tune as much as they say.

Silk party night

On Saturday 11th May some EuroGames volunteers joined one of the missions commissioned by the volunteer team of the organization: hunting high and low for further volunteers. The venue? Elephant, where the only-girls Silk Party is held once a month. Among elephant statues, palm trees, coloured silk curtains and an Alladin-tale-like atmosphere, we aimed to attract more girls who signed up to join the great sports event of the lesbian-gay-transexual-bisexual (LGTB) group.

Even though we know that not everyone is into sport, we have the feeling that many of you will be ready to make EuroGames the best excuse to make new friends from all over the world, and take part in various cultural events of the programme and, of course, also in the countless parties like Silk, which we’d love to see thrown time and again. So, let yourself flow and be enthused with the energy and euphoria of EuroGames volunteers; join the “extra-volunteers” list fronted by Salva and be part of this great team who seeks more volunteers to make the best diversity sports games happen!

On the weekend of May 10^th–11^th, 2008, a group of Eurogames volunteers made our way to the Santa Maria del Mar Youth Hostel (in Coma-Ruga, Tarragona) for a few days of fun.

We were looking forward to spending sunbathing and hanging out on the beach, but rain spoiled our plans. Far from letting the weather ruin our mood, we took advantage of the time to play cards and deepen our friendships.

In the afternoon we took our “umbrellas” for a stroll in the rain, and then stopped by La Jijonenca for a hot chocolate. At night we popped in one of the bars of the local gay scene –or at least, it became a gay bar when we got there! After a few drinks and “exotic” dances, we headed back to the hostel to go to sleep, just like good little boys should.

After Saturday Night Fever’s soundtrack (snores and other strange noises, LOL) we woke up to the beautiful sunshine: a perfect day for a trip. We visited a nice seaside town nearby, Roc de Sant Gaietà, and then returned to the hostel to eat and recap the weekend’s exploits. Finally, we grabbed our bags, hopped on the train and had a gay old time on the trip back to Barcelona.

Hi to all the EuroGames volunteers!!!

What about a little excursion so that we can get to know each other a bit more?? Surely you would you say ‘yes’!! We have found a nice hostel located next to the seaside in Sant Vicenç de Calders. Not bad, huh?

We will be leaving on 10th May from Barcelona Sants railway station, The train leaves early in the morning, so what about meeting between 11:00 at the platform leaving for San Vicenç de Calders? On arriving, we will go together to the hostel. Second general trainning day for EuroGames Barcelona 08 volunteers

Last Saturday April 19th during the second general trainning day a big group of volunteers enjoyed themselves and could be able to know more about the EuroGames project. Some members of the Organisation Comitee and all the Volunteers Coordination Team acompanied them. Those who could not assist and those who will register in the future will be able to participate in the next sessions in May and June.

Next general trainning day for EuroGames Barcelona 08 volunteers.

Next April 19th, will take place the second general trainning day for EuroGames Barcelona 08 volunteers. This trainning is dedicated to the volunteers who could not assist to the first general trainning and those who have registered recently. Like the first one, the trainning will take place in the Verge de Montserrat youth hostel in Barcelona and we expect a great attendance.

While a group of volunteers were running the 10 km of the race, another group of 9 people, all of them with Eurogames Barcelona 08 t-shirts, distributed flyers of the 10 km race that will be on Sunday 27th of july at 9’00 o`clock in the morning, during the celebration of Eurogames Barcelona 08.

Also another flyers has been distributed, to collect volunteers. Sure that the event Logo, the brigh flyers and the volunteers smiles, had overshadow the runners that arrived tired to the finishing line.

Volunteers big dinner to premiere the EuroGames Barcelona 08 extra-volunteers activities

The last Friday 28th of March, a group of 31 volunteers went to dinner to a little but cosy restaurant in the Gay-Eixample of Barcelona. A great moment to know each other and enjoy the night.

After dinner the party continued in a well known ambient club next to the restaurant, where the music makes us dance and laugh till 3 o’clock in the morning. Some volunteers continued dancing till the sunrise in another fashion discotheque in Barcelona.

Participation of our volunteers in the Casal Lambda Ball

Last Sunday 16th, our friends from Casal Lambda invited EuroGames Barcelona 08 to their traditional ball which takes place every month in Cassinet d’Hostafrancs. During the half-time interval, an introduction of the project and a showing of the official video were made. A group of volunteers gave information about EuroGames to all the assistants and encouraged everybody to register as a volunteer.

Great success on the first general training day for volunteers for the EuroGames Barcelona 08.

The first day of general training of volunteerism for the EuroGames Barcelona 08 took place on Saturday, March 8. The event, held at the hostel Verge of Montserrat, was attended by nearly one hundred volunteers. The day consisted of recreational activities and sports, a luncheon with all the assistants and a formative speech by the Volunteer Team Coordinator of the Organizing Committee.

The organizers of the training day described it as a "success", which was contributed by the sunny day and the interest and enthusiasm of those in attendance. This is only the first of several days of general training that the organising committee is preparing. In addition, each particular area of volunteering will receive specific training sessions focused on the tasks to be performed.
The training team also wanted to stress that "the tasks of volunteerism are not limited to the four days of July in which the EuroGames 08 will be held. Although several volunteers are already working for the event, the organization needs more people. To that end, EuroGames 08 encourages all those who may be interested to register through the website and attend the next training days. To ensure the success of the games, finally, the organization also stresses to all of the volunteers to spread the word to family, neighbors and friends

With your help the EuroGames will become reality!

We want to practice sport, we want to enjoy Barcelona, we want to live new experiences and we want to strive for equality.

As you already know, we want to make the EuroGames Barcelona 08 more than just a sports competition....we want to bring together all those – gays, lesbians, transexuals, bisexuals, heterosexuals – who believe in diversity. To do this we’re going to need help in the form of volunteers...

Volunteers need not be limited to just the gay community but to anyone who wants to help. The whole EuroGames Barcelona 08 ethos is based on openness and equality among people, hence everyone is welcome!

Barcelona is the first city in southern Europe to host an event of this kind. We will show that we are an open and welcoming city...and you should be there!

We want Barcelona to be a European sports capital, but of a type of sport that respects and welcomes everybody!

Come and make it possible! We need you!
